DRIVER / DELIVERY PERSON – Class 3 / Crane & Moffett Full Time

Job Description

Position Description:

The driver/delivery person is responsible for delivering products and/or supplies to customers, vendors, job sites, or other corporate locations.
Duties include operating freight handling equipment, maintenance and operation of company vehicles, verification of administrative paperwork, and working with the public at large.
The delivery person must safely perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service and contribute to the work environment in a positive manner that fosters pride in being part of a winning team

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

  • Experienced Class 3 Professional Driver who takes their safety, equipment, and compliance seriously.
  • A documented clean Driver Abstract with no Suspensions.
  • Driving and road knowledge of the local are in the Elk Valley, South Country and Cranbrook Area is preferred but will train the right candidate.
  • Crane Certification is preferred but will train the right candidate.
  • Maintain vehicle pre-trip inspection and maintenance records.
  • Construction and Building Product Knowledge is an asset but will train the right candidate.

Major Area of Responsibility

This position is responsible for the efficient, speedy and safe fulfillment but not limited to the following:

  • Safe delivery of Fernie Home Hardware products with a customer satisfaction attitude.
  • Checking and confirming order loads, details, and location for delivery of products
  • Communicating with customers, other drivers, sales staff, and yard supervisor/dispatch about deliveries.
  • Delivering product to customers using a company vehicle to designated locations.

Specific Job Requirements

The specific job requirements include but not limited to the following:

Truck Safety

  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records.
  • Operate the delivery truck in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill the equipment as necessary.
  • Preform pre-trip inspections of vehicle systems, equipment and accessories such as tires, lights, turn signals, brakes etc.
  • Report company vehicle maintenance needs to supervisor.

Loading Operation

  • Ensure cargo is properly loaded according to safety and regulation requirements.
  • Use Crane and/or Moffat Forklift in a safe and effective manner for unloading deliveries.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Follow all safety precautions when operating company vehicles and loading or unloading freight.
  • Assist in loading and unloading merchandise and materials.
  • Report any situation that may affect equipment availability to supervisor.

Deliveries and Documentation

  • Check delivery documents. Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
  • Verify correct product is delivered at every stop.
  • Follow all delivery and receiving procedures and company policies as determined by management.
  • Follow proper documentation procedures for any merchandise that is to be returned or refused.
  • Report complaints from customers to management.
  • Be alert for sales opportunities.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accident/injuries in a timely manner to supervisor.
  • Make suggestions for rule, policy, or procedure changes when you believe such changes will improve sales, profits and/or morale, etc.

Other Duties

  • Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
  • Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by supervisor and/or management.
  • Assist the Supervisor/Dispatcher in equipment management and training requirements for all drivers and yard attendants.

General Safety

  • Respect at all times the environment and health and safety policies.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense.
  • Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to supervisor and/or management in order to have the situation corrected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, and other employees in person, by telephone, or by FM radio.
  • Ability to work co-operatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to visually verify contents of shipments.
  • Ability to safely operate loading, unloading, and transfer equipment (forklifts, pushcarts, etc.), as well as company vehicles. Must safely secure cargo.
  • Must maintain a good driving record and lawfully operate all company vehicles used to make deliveries.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, push and pull product between 50 to 100 pounds to and from company vehicles in the delivery process.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

SCHEDULE:

  • 8 hour shift during store operational hours.
  • Day shift.
  • Monday To Friday.
  • Weekend availability.
  • Overtime.

EXPERIANCE:

  • Professional driving and customer deliveries: 1 to 2 years (preferred).
  • Customer service.

 

Wages: $20.00 to $30.00 Depending on Qualifications
